Basics of Filmmaking – Working with professional cameras

In this workshop on Wednesday, 4 February 2026 we will be looking at the basics of working with high grade cameras to create movies that have a cinema-like feel to it.

Lessons include:

• Getting to know the equipment
• Setting up the camera (hardware and software)
• Choosing the right lens
• Basics of focus and lighting
• Practical tips
• After the workshop you are going to know the basics of how to work with professional cameras and what to think about when you are creating your own visual style.

The workshop will be held in English. Participants do not need prior experience.

Target group: HfMT students and interested parties

Location: Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg, Harvestehuder Weg 12 (Entrance Milchstrasse), ELA 1 (Multimediahörsaal), 20148 Hamburg.
